U.S. Demopolis Land Office - register of lands sold at public sale, 1834-1837.

U.S. public lands were sold at auction to the highest bidder who was required to make full payment in cash at the time of the sale. This volume is a register of lands sold at public sale at the Demopolis Land Office. Each entry contains the date, a number (possibly the receipt or certificate number), purchaser's name and residence, location of the tract, number of acres, price per acre and the amount of purchase money. The volume also contains a register of lots associated with the Tombeckee Association (possibly also known as the Tombeckbee Association), 1834-1837. Many of these purchasers have French names and may have been associated with the "Vine and Olive Colony." These records document land settlement in Ala. and provide information about settlers in the state.
